Our Story
How it started...
Lusoma was born out of both passion and frustration. We saw incredible local organisations across the Global South driving real, community-led change on the ground. Yet behind the scenes, many of these same organisations struggled with fragile systems, misaligned structures, and operational bottlenecks that choked their growth.
Too many non-profits lose momentum after a decade; not from a lack of vision, but from financial instability, leadership gaps, and unscalable foundations. For us, that’s an unacceptable loss. Bold ideas require resilient organisational infrastructure to achieve their full, lasting power.
Why we started...
When non-profits in East Africa and the Global South operate with weak internal systems, their ability to turn transformational ideas into sustained impact breaks down. We exist to fix that internal engine.
Funders often push global strategies that don't bend to local realities. Local organisations work under tight constraints. Short on resources and recognition, with 60% of Sub-Saharan African civil society organisations reporting difficulty adapting to shifting environments in 2021.
Through our approach, (expert facilitation, executive coaching, social research, and co-designed strategy), we help leadership teams pause, look inward, and realign. Moving from fragile institutions to self-sustaining drivers of lasting impact.

Knowledge and Insights: Developed field-tested knowledge products, including practical toolkits, opinion pieces, and sector-wide publications that equip African civil society organisations with actionable strategies for resilience, adaptive strategy, and community-driven accountability

Leadership Development: We have mentored and trained more than 50 social change leaders and executives through personalised coaching, strategic design, and hands-on support.

Institutional Health & Stability: Guided 30% of our partner organisations to strengthen governance frameworks, stabilise operations, and transition toward sustainable, long-term funding models.
