The Elasticity of CSOs

Writer's picture: Lusoma Advisory ServicesLusoma Advisory Services

The elasticity of CSOsRecent conversations on building resilient organisations @partnersglobal brought this proverb to life. Recognizing that as non-profit actors, we have relied on our past experiences, and ourcontext of working – in addressing the changing dynamics we face in addressing social challenges and injustices.

Well rightfully so, as this is what has grown our work, built our legitimacy, and established our brand. Emerging issues present new challenges, that neither our past experiences nor context have faced, there is only so far our experience can go without us letting go of this past – and embracing new realities.

It’s a call for us to pause, reflect, and re-strategize in ways that could cause us discomfort, but bring growth; cause us to go into unexplored domains – but birth new opportunities. Building resilient organisations will indeed take time – it requires a mind shift change, an appreciation of our capabilities, as opposed to focusing on the limitations that hold us back.

It's about daring to risk it and fall, then not to act at all. Ultimately, we will learn the art of adaptation, the joy of innovation, and the zeal to face our greatest fears.

This is the only way to get our organisations into a resilient journey – building the elasticity of civil society.
