'Let's create the value chain that makes giving today an investment for tomorrow's change.'
As we actively and generously get into the giving season, one is marvelled and impressed with the diverse and innovative ways in which our giving practices, indigenous and modern, have continued to draw attention to the importance of generosity in promoting social change.
Year in, and year out, giving campaigns like Giving Tuesday, and religious events like Diwali and Christmas continue to increase in number and gain more traction among cheerful givers.
As we increase momentum into this giving season, I dare ask if we recognise the value and impact of these giving practices.
Many of us may have matrices that show and track the number of givers and the amount of giving.
But we must challenge ourselves to begin assessing how well the generosity cup is scaling towards social change.
So, to the cheerful givers in this season, I encourage us to give with a long-term change in mind. Challenge those you support to share their long-term aspirations and keep them accountable.
To the giving campaigns, let's play the long game, yes, the child today needs food donations, but a livelihood is better. The women need dignity kits today, but accessible health services are better.
Let's create the value chain that makes giving today an investment for tomorrow's change.
